Self-Regulating Heating Cables - What are they and why do you want them?

Self-regulating heating cables are cables that have a resistance that changes with the temperature; they have a low resistance for any temperature that is below the cable set point and a high resistance for any temperature that are above the cable set point. When set point for the cable temperature is reached the resistance heightens and no further heat is supplied, meaning that only where heat is needed along the length of the cable is where the heat is supplied.

When the weather starts to turn cold, and freezing conditions set in, it can cause pipes to burst and in turn causes damage to the pipe work and to the property because of the water leakage. Cross Electricals trace heating freeze protection heating cable systems works to avoid this winter hazard and will prevent pipes from freezing.

In especially cold conditions, thermal insulation can’t fully protect pipes from freezing alone and brutal weather might also cause fuel lines to clog.

Raychem frost protection systems safeguard water pipes, fire mains, sprinkler systems and fuel oil lines from frost in severe winter conditions.

Cross Electricals trace heating freeze protection heating cable systems safeguard, water pipes, Building services pipework, Fire mains & hoses, Fire Sprinkler pipework, Fuel oil pipework, tanks and vessels.

Pipework fitted with trace heating cables and thermal insulation will retain the heat output of the cables and provide an effective barrier against freezing temperatures.
